What the designation is
ASTQB Test Automation Pro™ is awarded by ASTQB to software quality professionals who hold three specific ISTQB certifications: Foundation Level, Test Automation Engineering, and Test Automation Strategy. It is a designation, not an exam itself. The underlying credentials are the three ISTQB certifications that qualify you for it.
The designation exists because automation is no longer optional. Companies need professionals who understand not just how to write scripts, but when automation helps, where it creates risk, how to maintain it, and how it connects to real business value.
The three required certifications
Each certification covers a different layer of test automation. Together they represent the full stack of knowledge the designation is designed to signal.
After Foundation Level, ASTQB does not specify a required order between the two automation exams. Most candidates with hands-on automation work start with Test Automation Engineering; those who lead teams or make automation decisions often find Test Automation Strategy more immediately relevant.
How to get the designation
Complete all three ISTQB certifications through ASTQB or AT*SQA, then contact the AT*SQA support team to request the designation. It is not added automatically to your profile once the exams are done.
Once approved, the ASTQB Test Automation Pro™ designation is added to your profile pages in the Official U.S. List of Certified & Credentialed Software Testers™, AT*Work, and AT*Consult. After one year, renew it by completing an AT*SQA test automation micro-credential.
